DUTCHESS ORTHODONTICS
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Dutchess Orthodontics’s treatment objective is not only to straighten teeth but also to balance the face and jaws. For many patients, early treatment is vital to the development of the jaws and face, as well as overall health. Crooked teeth and small jaws are often a sign of an underlying issue; allergies, swollen tonsils and adenoids, thumb-sucking habits, chronic mouth breathing, and underdeveloped facial muscles are just a few reasons that the jaws do not develop properly. We often see children who don’t sleep well at night because small jaws leave little room for the tongue, which can then fall back into the airway while the child is sleeping. Sleep-disordered breathing leads to many other health issues, including attention-deficit disorders, reduced physical performance, and poor performance in school. In such cases, we often recommend expanding and advancing the jaws with specialized appliances. This creates more airway space, improved facial aesthetics, and can lead to improved overall health.
